National Multicultural Marketing Awards

Program summary

The 2009 National Multicultural Marketing Awards aim to encourage and reward the efforts of businesses and organisations that focus on the cultural diversity of Australia in their overall marketing strategies. It is a national award and there are seven award categories: Commercial Big Business Award, Commercial Small Business Award, Community Award, Government Award, Advertising Award, Information Technology Award, and Export Award.

The 2009 Awards are proudly sponsored by The Australian Newspaper, AFL, CMC Markets, Commonwealth Bank, Qantas Airways, Westin Sydney and Casella Wines -Yellow Tail.

Who can apply?

Any business, organisation or government agency in Australia that falls within one of the award categories and has worked towards achieving one or more of the following is invited to apply for an Award:

  • conceived a plan to use Australia's cultural diversity as a base for producing, exporting or marketing a product, service, event, etc.
  • targeted a particular market by way of language, culture or ethnicity
  • broken out of the traditional marketing mould in an attempt to reach a wider market within a culturally diverse society
  • used the language and cultural skills of their staff to market a product or service either domestically or internationally
  • used innovative multicultural marketing techniques in a mass media context.
Who can't apply?
Any Community Relations Commissioner, full-time or part-time employee of the Commission or sponsor of the event is ineligible to enter.
What will be funded?

Commercial Business Award

This award is for businesses with more than 100 employees. It is open to anyone in business in Australia and covers any form of commercial activity, such as buying, selling, training, organising or consulting, which relates to a culturally diverse market.

Commonwealth Bank Commercial Small Business Award

This award is for businesses with up to 100 employees. It is open to anyone in business in Australia and covers any form of commercial activity, such as buying, selling, training, organising or consulting, which relates to a culturally diverse market

AFL Community Award

This award is aimed at any community or cultural organisation in Australia which can demonstrate the ability to market itself, whether it is through a fundraising program, a community welfare project, a community festival or a campaign, which leads to the betterment of the community. The program must be clearly targeted, with specific objectives and measurable achievements. Creativity and cultural sensitivity should be the key elements in a successful submission

CMC Markets Government Award

This award is for any government department or agency in Australia. It is open to those government bodies that market their services, inform and educate people about their rights, develop and adapt services to meet the needs of a culturally diverse society, and promote a service's responsibilities towards its users.

Advertising Award

For any public relations or advertising agency in Australia that has developed a mass media campaign, recognising the value of the cultural diversity of Australia in its message and imagery.

Information Technology Award

For anyone in business in Australia who has developed online information about their products and services that are accessible in relevant community languages. This category is also open to companies that practice business online in a multilingual environment, as well as multilingual web publishing services and interactive websites.

Export Award

For any company, organisation or government agency in Australia that has targeted an export market with an existing or new product or service and has used the cultural or linguistic skills, geographic knowledge or personal contacts of its staff to develop the product and market it. The entrant must outline the associated strategy to successfully enter and develop an overseas market.
